1955-57, We were equipped with copters: HOKs and fixed-wing Cessna PE1 and OE2. CO was LtCol Pankhurst.
1955-1957 I was the only assigned ordnance person in the outfit.. The need for an ordnance man was not there, so they assigned me to supply. TSgt Robertson was my ncoic; Lt Burlis our OIC; LtCol, Pankhurst our overall CO.. Best 28 months of my life. - Semper Fi. Joe Hopfner 6511 -
1955-1957, I was stationed at MCAS New River, VMO-1. We had HOK copters and and fixed wing Cessnas OE-1 and 2s. The CO was LtCol Pankhurst. Great 30 months of my life. I fondly remember many of my fellow Marines stationed there.
1959-1961, I was with VMO-1 in New River. Still had the HOK and OE 1 and 2. Flew both aboard the USS Boxer as we trained on Viegas Island, PR. LtCol Jim Boldman was the CO . Then transferred to HMM 262 for the Med Cruise. Enjoyed it all Immensely. Best memory was being able to "carrier qualify" on the boxer with the OE-2. Three touch and go's and three full stop Capt Charles Bogg joined me with the other OE-2 we had aboard. Capt Tom Fish was the paddle guy!.
Gary Sheldon 1967-1970, I was in VMO-1, we had both Hueys and Bronco's at New River
