Operates the HS.9 (SH-3 Sea King) in AEW and ASW mission profiles. During 2005, the unit relinquished its ASW role as its HS.9s were converted for the transport and assault role.
From 2014, under the HTTN (Helicoptero de Transporte Tactico Naval) program, the squadron received former U.S. Navy SH-60F helicopters to replace the SH-3 Sea King in the embarked tactical transport and logistics role.
The squadron was decommissioned on January 30, 2026, following an official disbandment ceremony. Its SH-60F helicopters and personnel were transferred to the 10th Squadron, while the future embarked tactical transport mission will ultimately be assumed by the new 14th Squadron, which will operate the NH90 MSPT.
