Marchwood Military Port was opened in 1943 to support the Normandy Landings for D-Day. It has continued as the UKs only dedicated military port and was renamed the Sea Mounting Centre. There are 2 helipads; one for embarking helicopters (the focus of map centre) and one less than 0.5nm to the south west for visitors and cargo offload.
