H E Vosper established a shipyard at Camber in Portsmouth Harbour in 1871. A second yard was purchased at Flathouse in 1936. The company merged with J I Thornycroft of Woolston in 1965 and around the same time, closed its original (1864) yard at Chiswick in West London.
The Woolston shipyard was demolished in 2005 to make way for a housing and shopping re-development. Shipbuilding facilities transferred to Portsmouth.
