This site was formerly the Swan Hunter ship repair yard. 
In 2009, the Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA) contracted A&P Hebburn to deliver the mid-sections of two Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers.
During Oct 2023, A and P (Falmouth, Hebburn and Middlesbrough) and A and P Australia merged with Cammell Laird and Neway Industrial Services (a marine paint specialist, also in Birkenhead), to become APCL Group Ltd.
The companies will retain their own identities but it makes formal, years of previous co-operation agreements and each can call on the resources of the other, to offer a flexible approach to work.
