AAMS Community Awards 2018

Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) announced its 2018 awards. Carilion Clinic Life-Guard received the Program of the Year Award particularly for their work with the Haiti Air Ambulance. Other services honored were Mercy Flight WNY, Maryland State Police, PHI Air Medical, Life Lion, Ascension Wisconsin, Boston MedFlight and Utah Airmed





AAMS Community Awards 2018
AAMS, December 03, 2018 - Established in 1980, the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) is an international trade association headquartered in the Washington, DC that represents and advocates on behalf of its membership to enhance their ability to deliver quality, safe, and effective medical care and medical transportation.

Each year, AAMS recognizes excellence and leadership in emergency medical transport through a variety of notable national awards incluing

Program of the Year Award


Sponsored by Airbus, the Program of the Year Award recognizes an emergency medical transport service (national or international) that has demonstrated a superior level of patient care, management prowess, high quality leadership through visionary and innovative approaches, customer service, safety consciousness, marketing ingenuity, community service, and a commitment to the medical transport community as a whole.

The 2018 Winner was Carilion Clinic Life-Guard. The award recognized their outstanding service mentioning specifically, their ground-breaking land the drone campaign and their Haiti exchange program.

Marriott-Carlson Lifetime Achievement Award


Sponsored by Bell, Marriott-Carlson Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the overall enhancement, development, leadership or promotion of the emergency medical transport community and has been actively involved or participated in an emergency medical transport organization.

The 2018 Winner was Douglas H. Baker from Mercy Flight

Jim Charlson Safety Award


Sponsored by Airbus, Jim Charlson Safety Award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the overall enhancement, development or promotion of safety within the air and critical care ground transport community.

Barbara A. Hess Research & Education Award


Sponsored by LifePort, Barbara A. Hess Research & Education Award recognizes an individual who has significantly contributed to the enhancement, development, and promotion of the emergency medical industry through their research or educational efforts.

The 2018 Winner was Christian Martin-Gill, MD, MPH from University of Pittsburgh Medical Center

Transport Mechanic’s Award of Excellence


Sponsored by Leonardo, Transport Mechanic Award of Excellence recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the safe operation of medical transport vehicles or the improvement of safe maintenance procedures of medical transport vehicles.

The 2018 Winner was Kenneth Norman from PHI Air Medical, L.L.C.

The 2018 Winner was 2018 PennState Health Life Lion Critical Care Transport

AAMS Critical Care Ground Award of Excellence


Sponsored by the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC), AAMS Critical Care Ground Award of Excellence recognizes an individual or team that has made an outstanding contribution to a critical care ground transport service in any of the following areas: enhancing safety, education, leadership, patient advocacy by developing or promoting the improvement of patient care in the medical transport community. The award may be given for an overall critical care ground-specific patient care contribution, or ground transport outcome.

The 2018 Winner was Ascension Wisconsin Spirit Medical Transport

AAMS Neonatal/Pediatric Award of Excellence


Sponsored by AirBorne Transport Incubators, a Division of International Biomedical Ltd, AAMS Neonatal/Pediatric Transport Award of Excellence recognizes an individual or team that has made an outstanding contribution to a neonatal/pediatric transport service in any of the following areas: enhancing safety, education, leadership, patient advocacy by developing or promoting the improvement of patient care in the medical transport community. The award may be given for an overall neonatal/pediatric-specific patient care contribution, or neonatal/pediatric transport outcome.

The 2018 Winner was Boston MedFlight

AAMS Excellence in Transport Leadership Award
