usa 54th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron

US Air Force

54 ARRS :

1952 to 1974

In the early years also the unit flew with fixed wings like the Albatross, Skymaster and Hercules.

1964-1966, I was stationed in Detachment 2, 54th Air rescue Squadron, Earnest Harmon AFB Newfoundland, two HH-43B helicopters, 62-4529 and 62-4530
1968, before moving to Peace AFB, the 54th ARRS was based in Goose Bay Labrador. I was with the unit there for over a year and moved with them to Peace before being medically discharged in August 1968. I was an Airborne Navigation Systems tech on the HC-130H.
1969-1970, I as stationed with the 54th ARRS at Pease AFB. Only aircraft stationed/operated by the 54th were five (5ea) C-130H's. No helicopters. The 54th was a 'tenant' squadron on base, for B52's of the 509th Air Bombardment Wing. Regards.
