Formed from 1906 Flight, RAF with the AAC formation in 1957. After a very short period in Germany the Sycamores were returned by the RAF and the Skeeters removed for further development, so the unit went back to fixed wing and was re-titled 6 Independent Flight. Re-designated 6 Liaison/Depot Flight in 1959, it gradually assumed a trials role although it still maintained a VIP liaison duty. By 1961, the Flight had 2 Alouettes on strength, along with a small number of Austers and Beavers.
Moved from Middle Wallop to Nicosia in Feb 1965, replacing 3 Flight in support of the UNFICYP mission, where it was itself relieved by 21 Flight in Aug 1965.
In 1966, 6 Liaison/Depot Flight had its fixed wing aircraft reassigned to 132 Flt AAC, along with its trials role. However it continued as the VIP Flight and moved to Netheravon, where it added at least one Alouette AH.2 in Nov 1969. On 1 Apr 1978 the Flight was incorporated into the newly reformed 658 Squadron and lost its separate identity in 1984.
On 1 Jun 1993, the Flight reformed as 6 Flight AAC (Volunteers), based at RAF Shawbury and was equipped with 4 Gazelle.
