1972–1992

On September 1st 1967, HC-1 was splitted in several new units. One of those was a LAMPS training unit for the SH-2 Seasprite helicopter designated Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Five ( HC-5 ). On March 1972, HC-5 became HSL-31. Archangels used tail code TD
1974-1977, I also was with this squadron as a plane captain. I was there when they transferred from Imperial Beach to North Island. I did 2 cruises on the USNS Chauvenet (T-AGS-29)
1975. Hello, I was in HSL31 from beginning early 1975 while it was still based at Imperial Beach, prior to moving to NAS North Island and I left in the spring of 1977. I LOVED EVERY Minute. Even 45 years later I MISS IT! What a GREAT squadron to be a part of. Everyone from the CO'S down were like family. I chose to stay out at the line shack (Plane captain) rather than going in to my shop. (AMH) My name is Marc Armstrong but more commonly known as or called Army for short.
