Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) is the state’s peak authority for aquatic rescue and beach safety, operating as one of Australia’s largest volunteer-based community service organizations. Formally established in 1930, though with roots dating back to the first recorded Queensland rescue in 1909, the organization is driven by a vision of achieving zero preventable deaths in Queensland’s public waters.
Today, SLSQ oversees 58 surf lifesaving clubs and more than 36,000 volunteer members who patrol approximately 8,000 kilometers of coastline from Port Douglas to Rainbow Bay. Beyond traditional beach patrols, its diverse operations include the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service, community education programs, and cutting-edge drone surveillance technology, all supported by a mix of government funding, donations, and commercial training services
