I was an Australian Navy pilot on an RN exchange tour, at the time and I was the pilot of ZD480 on 26 Feb 1991, during Gulf War 1. It was an 845 NACS bird known as 'YC'. The mission was a no duff CASEVAC of a seriously wounded Challenger tank crewman (plus an EPOW as we later found out!) of the UK's 1st Armoured Divn, during the breech of the Iraqi defences in the initial ground offensive phase. It was a tough NVG sortie for which I was awarded (my whole crew in my opinion) the AFC, which was presented to me by HRH QEII at Buckhimham Palace. I have the citation, log book entry plus photos proving ZD480 was in Gulf War 1.
