Coast Guard Air Station Savannah

I was stationed at the USCG Air Station on Hunter Army Airfield from 1971 through Aug 1974. Saw the base training the Vietnamese Pilots in 1971 the Airfield shut down for a year or so and opened again. The Coasties kept to themselves for the most part except for the softball and flag football games. We had 3 HH52As - 2 always were ready to go - we stay one base every third night for 24 hours in addition to our regular duty. We had no major incidents while I was there - we did have one helicopter loose a tail rotor while in a hover on base. No on injured.
