NH90 Replaced CH-53 in Afghanistan

Germany replaced their CH-53 helicopters deployed in Afghanistan with NH90. Bundeswehr heavy lift helicopters were first deployed 8 years ago

Luftwaffe (air force) CH-53G helicopters deployed in Afghanistan returned home after being replaced by HEER (army) NH90s.

Six NH90 TTH took over the Medical Evacuation (MedEvac) and transport missions carried out until now by the CH-53 from Mazar-i-Sharif.

German's CH-53 were first deployed in Afghanistan in 2012 and the NH90 were already in country during 2014

VFW CH-53G

Sikorsky provided two CH-53G to West German Heeeresgeflieger and a further 20 knock-down kits to VFW-Fokker for license production with VFW c/ns. VFW-Fokker then went on to build 90 on their own.

Luftwaffe since 2010

Transferred from the Army. Originally built by VFW in the 1970s and upgraded by Eurocopter from 1999.
