Guided-Missile Destroyer Kidd class

Four Spruance class destroyers originally ordered by the Shah of Iran for service in the Persian Gulf in an air defense role. The ships carry a pair of twin Mk26 instead of the ASROC and Sea Sparrow launchers. With the 1979 Iranian Revolution the contracts were cancelled and the ships were completed for the US Navy where they became known as the Ayatollah class. After decommissioned in late 1990s were offered to Australia and Greece but both options were refused. Finally sold to Taiwan in 2003
