The HAS.3 was introduced to provided an uprated helicopter from the HAS.2 using the improved Rolls-Royce Gem 42-1 turboshaft engines and upgraded main transmission gearbox. 53 HAS. 2 helicopters were converted and a further 30 new builds were delivered.

The Lynx HAS.3 was retired from FAA service in a ceremony at RNAS Yeovilton on 1 Apr 2013.
