Tail code JA, they test and evaluate the newest and most advanced technology in ASW, Electronic Warfare (EW), Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR), Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR), and Airborne Mine Counter-Measures (AMCM) mission areas.

As of 2012 their rotary wing aircraft includes the MH-60R and MH-60S Seahawk and the MQ-8B Fire Scout UAV.
