US Marine Corps 153354 : I was the crew chief on her final flight . We crashed on approach and were almost waved off and back over the water . I'm sure none of us woulde have survived . the fwd yellow blade had a crack in the D spar and went UA ! A WM Major and Ltcmdr were both killed by blade strikes as the blades and rotor heads went out of phase and entered the AC Myself and four others survived . we are I believe the only survivors of an inflight blade loss . US Marine Corps 154026 : I think this is the one from HMM-164, MAG-36 (Futenma) that crashed near a construction site in Onaha, Nishihara Village - killing 4 crew and injuring another severely.
US Marine Corps 154026 : Chief Warrant Officer named Poe was the pilot, and the Crew a Chief was Danny Curry of I believe Dallas Texas. Curry and one other crewman were killed and the co pilot survived with bad injury. Warrant Officer Poe survived but was badly burned. They were flight testing the new BIM blades from Boeing, and had a blade failure as I recall.

US Navy 154873 : This a/c crashed a few days after Marine HMH-463 YH-11 went down in North Vietnam waters sweeping mines. Both crashes were a result of tail rotor pitch link failures. This crash resulted in all 53's being grounded and new more robust pitch links being installed. Neither crash caused fatalities

US Marine Corps 157160 : Yankee Hotel 11 was actually air borne dragging mine gear in the water to mine sweeping area when the tail rotor pitch link failed. I was the crew chief on this aircraft when she went down. I was by the ramp when the tail rotor separated and the aircraft began a left to right yaw increasing in degrees rapidly until the aircraft began rotating 360 degrees in a nose down larger 360 arc. Bristow G-AZNE : suffered a hard landing on the drill ship Glomar north Sea, in which the rotors drooped down over the top of the cockpit, damaging the engine controls and circuit breaker panels. The pilot was unable to shut down the engines. Passengers and co-pilot were evacuated and the pilot lifted off the deck and landed on the sea. He was able to evacuate and swim away, leaving the aircraft burning and turning on the water for 2 hours until fuel ran out. The aircraft rolled over and sank. No loss of life, lots of loss of face. Shift engineer on duty at BHL at the time of the incident

All three crewmembers egressed safely and survived. It was an SH-2D and was on HSL-31 Det-1 at the time of the accident
