1973 ch-3c 61-502 US 62-12577 : Dec68-Sep69, Edwards AFB. I was assigned as a CH-3E Mechanic A4350C after training at Sheppard AFB Helicopter Mechanics school. Edwards AFB Maintenance Squadron send me there. I was assigned to CH-3E 62-12577. The Helicopter was still going through the Testing Phase. The next time I saw it was at Hickam AFB. It belong to Air America. My pilots were assigned as accident investigators to fly to an Island where they found the rotor head laying on the runway on top of the what was left of the Helicopter. We were told that they lock the doors after landing and walked away. Later the Helicopter exploded for no apparent reason

1973 CH-46D 2340 US 153989 : Oct72 asg HMM-165 was replaced as /YW-5 with 154833
1973 CH-46D 2377 US 154026 : CWO Poe was the pilot on this 5 Dec. 1973 test flight. I do not know the identities of the crew, but three (3) were killed. Copilot was paralyzed. Both the copilot and CWO Poe suffered burns and were pulled from burning wreckage by nearby Okinawan man. CWO Poe returned to active service. Test was for tracking blades but I was told the cause of the crash was a malfunction in one of the transmissions which caused the blades to mesh. fyi. I was the copilot that sad day!

1973 ch-53a 65-095 US 153709 : Crashed at Naval Air Test Center Patuxent River Md, spring of 1973, complete loss. Lost one soul, Crew Chief Marine Sgt Tom Henderson. Navy Pilot, Civilian Test Pilot and Army Crew Chief escaped with non life threatening injuries.

1973 ch-53a 65-136 US 154873 : This a/c crashed a few days after Marine HMH-463 YH-11 went down in North Vietnam waters sweeping mines. Both crashes were a result of tail rotor pitch link failures. This crash resulted in all 53's being grounded and new more robust pitch links being installed. Neither crash caused fatalities

1973 ch-53d 65-286 US 157160 : Yankee Hotel 11 was actually air borne dragging mine gear in the water to mine sweeping area when the tail rotor pitch link failed. I was the crew chief on this aircraft when she went down. I was by the ramp when the tail rotor separated and the aircraft began a left to right yaw increasing in degrees rapidly until the aircraft began rotating 360 degrees in a nose down larger 360 arc. 1973 S-61N 61-469 GL OY-HAI : named Akigssek ( Grouse ); circa 1970 pictured at Nuuk, Godthaab. Note still missing the radar nose and ice deflector; circa 1971 emergency landing on the Kangerlussuaq fjord 2 due to flameout on both engines because of ice in the intake. It was then repaired and upgraded with ice shields in front of the intake and with nose radar as well; w/o 25oct73 crashed 40km S of Nuuk, 15 fatalities. It was en route to Paamiut from Nuuk and was damaged beyond repair. Never repaired/rebuild
